The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to increase in San Luis Obispo County. County Public Health says this is to be expected and will continue for at least several weeks. As we’ve discussed, our job as a community is to slow the spread of the virus to keep the situation from spiking and swamping healthcare resources. The Governor has extended the shelter-at-home order to include everyone, not just those over 65. Of course, you can still make trips for the necessities. For a full list of exemptions to the rule visit www.readyslo.org. This shelter order is enforceable by law, but we all know it’s up to us to comply without someone looking over our shoulders. We’re smart. We can do that.
For our Spanish speaking neighbors, the City of Paso Robles is publishing official notices bilingually. Visit www.prcity.com.
County authorities are making arrangements for housing for homeless people who contract the disease. They are also working with the Food Bank to establish feeding resources.

Individuals and organizations continue to rise to the occasion as we seek ways to accommodate the limitations imposed on us by the coronavirus. I want to recognize some of those efforts and encourage others to support them and initiate others.
I’ve mentioned before that our Chamber of Commerce is working to help small businesses by facilitating access to Small Business loans. They are also addressing the real-world challenges of working from home. Just so you know, the Chamber continues to check voice-mail and email. The Chamber continues to operate and support our business community. Here are some ways you can do the same.
Connect with your team. Use Slack, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Skype and Zoom to stay in touch. It’s helpful to keep a regular work routine and schedule virtual staff meetings. Visit PasoStrong.org for ways to support local small businesses.
I and the City Council, along with a very dedicated city staff, work daily to maintain city operations, public safety and community involvement. You are a part of that team. The biggest part. Shelter in place, but don’t cut yourselves off from family, friends and neighbors. It’s easier than ever to stay connected. Pick up the phone. Call someone. Ask if they need anything. And let’s not forget our seniors and shut-ins. They need us more than ever. Let’s make it work.
